As an antibacterial ingredient, turmeric is used to disinfect the skin, and also combat acne. When applied well, turmeric reduces the dark circles on the skin giving the skin a glowing appearance.

Maybelline The Buffs Lipstick in Untainted Spice and Espresso Exposed

Hello loves!  My birthday celebration continues, as I am headed to see Sarah McLachlan tomorrow night in Charleston, SC!  One of my besties treated me to tickets and hotel (thanks Amie!).  I am super excited for the concert and hangin’ with mah gurl!  And Charleston in the springtime is absolutely lovely!

Maybelline Untained Spice and Espresso Exposed (top to bottom)

I’ve had these Maybelline The Buffs lipstick in Untainted Spice and Espresso Exposed for a while.  I saw a display in Walmart when they were newly launched, picked up a couple (they were on sale!), put them in a drawer, and forgot about them.  Tragic really, as they are so my colors!

Maybelline Untainted Spice and Espresso Exposed (left to right)

The Buffs is a part of the Color Sensational line that includes Vivids, Reds, and a whole range of  other shades.  The Buffs is more focused on nudes.  Not my favorite hue, but I chose the darker options.  If you are a nude lip fan, definitely check out this collection!  I love the Color Sensational lipsticks because they are super pigmented, shiny, non-drying, and really comfortable to wear.  And the formula is consistent throughout the line.  Since it is a shiny/moisturizing lipstick, you do have to reapply frequently.

Maybelline Untainted Spice Lipstick

For me, Untainted Spice is a great nude.  About as nude as I like to go.  It looks super dark in this photo, but the two initial pics are a better representation of the shade.

Maybelline Espresso Exposed Lipstick

Espresso Exposed is the darkest shade the line offers.  It is a great raisin/berry color.

Depending on your complexion, Untainted Spice could be a great ’90s brown.

I love Untainted Spice!  Great MLBB for me!

Espresso Exposed is a great raisin shade.  Of course, it’s springtime.  But I will still wear this lipstick!

Before I go, can we please talk about these lashes!!!!  I hate doing closeups, and y’all know I am not a makeup artist.  But I just had to mention them.

Red Cherry Lashes #43

Red Cherry Lashes #43

LAWD my wrinkles!!!!

These are Red Cherry #43.  I order them from Lady Moss.  They are cheaper than Ardell lashes, and I’ve gotten 10+ uses from these so far.  Great quality for the price.  Maybe not for everyday, but they are awesome!  They are super easy to use, and the band is perfect even if you don’t use liner.  And they offer more conservative lashes, as well as more glam than these.  This is not sponsored at all.  Just wanted to let you know about these great lashes!

Again, thanks for reading! xoxo

Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream and Blush

Hello beautiful people!  I just got back from the most wonderful birthday trip, and I’m recharged and ready to go!  The trip home was awful because of flight delays/cancellations, but we got home eventually at 2:00am Monday morning.  Ugh.  Then we went to see Elton John the next day here in Augusta!  Sir Elton has made frequent stops here in my town when he’s on the road.  I have a special place for him in my heart because he was the first “rock” artist I ever heard.  I grew up in Japan until my Dad got stationed in the US when I was 9.  Until then, the only music I was exposed to was my Daddy’s classic country & western (which I love to this day!), and my Mom’s Elvis.  When we got to America, there were tons of FM radio stations that played music I had never heard.  Back then, when you lived overseas, you only had American Forces Radio, which played very limited music.  So, when “Honky Cat” came on the radio, I was like, “What is this?????”.  And my love for Elton was forever cemented in that moment.  One of my cats is named Levon after one of his songs.  Whenever I go to concerts, I am so blown away by the fact that an artist writes music/lyrics, and people sing back to them in unison; word for word.  Music does join us all together!  That’s why I love it so much.

I had planned to do a review on the Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream and Blush before I left, but it didn’t happen.  So, here it is!

Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream and Blush

I am a huge fan of the Physicians Formula bronzers, concealers, and blushes, but had never tried any foundations.

Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream and Blush

I gotta admit the packaging is what drew me into the Argan Wear line!  The blush in itself is like a work of art!

Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream

The BB Cream is available in Light and Light/Medium.  Of course, I chose Light/Medium, and hoped it would work for me!  *Spoiler Alert* – it did.

Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush in Rose

The blush is offered in Natural and Rose.  I picked Rose.

Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush Rose

The compact separates into lid, product (with mirror underneath), and a brush in the base.  The mirror is awesome.  The blush is very, very pink – my camera (probably my fault) makes it look more mauve/purple.  It is very disco pink in color (as you will see in swatches).

Physicians Formula Argan Wear Blush

The gold flecks you can see is an over-spray.  After a couple of swipes with a blush brush, it’s gone.  Though it does blend into the surrounding blush.

Physicians Formula Argan Wear BB Cream and Blush Swatches

Yay!  You can see the color of the blush!  It is a true pink.

My thoughts:

The BB cream is awesome!  It actually feels like a skin treatment when you apply it.  The package claims to “even out, smooth, moisturize, protect, and condition”.  It does.  It has moisturizer, argan oil, and SPF 30.  It is very light, and gives a dewy finish.  The coverage is a bit sheer, but it does even out your complexion.  Perfect for when you don’t want to do the whole foundation/powder thing, but want to look presentable.  I apply with a Beauty Blender.  I have a lot of redness, and this did not completely cover it up.  But again, I feel like I am presentable.  Albeit a bit red :D  My skin feels really soft and smooth after removing it also.  Because of the sheerness, light/medium worked perfectly for my skin tone.

The one tiny thing I don’t care for is the fragrance.  The back of the box claims it is an “exotically scented formula”.  It’s not chemical-y or perfume-y.  It’s an strange exotic scent alright.  It does fade after a while.  But very noticeable when you first apply.  But I love it, so I will deal with the smell!

However, I am not quite so enamored with the blush.  It is very pigmented, and is a bold pink shade.  But I find it very hard to blend.  I tend to be a bit heavy handed with blush, so I always buff with a complexion brush after applying.  This formula tended to just wear off rather than blend into my skin.  And the gold over spray glitter is a bit chunky.  I’m not sure if it will eventually disappear after using it longer?  We shall see.  Oh, and the blush has the same strange exotic fragrance.

My sweet photography assistant Murphy is happy his Mommy is home.  I’m sure he will be joining me in the photo session scheduled for tomorrow.

What I’m Packing

Hello loves!  Tomorrow, March 1, is my birthday!  To celebrate, hubby and I are going to a resort in Sedona, Arizona for a week.  We’ve never visited the state, and were looking to go somewhere warm.  Naturally, with all this crazy, unseasonably cold crap we’ve been getting, it looks like Arizona isn’t going to be much warmer.  Oh well.  We’ll make the best of it!  I was trying to organize what all I would be taking, and thought I’d share what I’m packing – in terms of makeup and skincare stuff.

What I’m Packing

I am pretty proud of the fact that I do not over pack.  I have always traveled for business, so I’ve learned over the years to keep things to a minimum, as half the stuff I used to lug around didn’t get used.  I like to go through my sample stash and find things to try out while I’m away.  Especially since I don’t have travel sizes of the products I use every day.  And I’m too lazy to transfer stuff from the full size into the little plastic travel containers.  Besides, it’s fun to rummage through the tiny bottles and foil packs to see what treasures I can try out.  Sort of like shopping.

Origins Skincare Samples

I got this Origins sample set as a points perk from Sephora a while back.  It has the Checks and Balances face wash, GinZing eye cream and moisturizer, and Night-A-Mins night cream.  Basic skincare covered.

Additional Cleansing Products

I’m also bringing the Bi-Facil eye makeup remover, Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, and the Liz Earle Hot Cloth Cleanser.  I’m really excited to try the Liz Earle.

Skin Treatments:

Skincare Treatments

I’m also trying some Kate Somerville, Dr. Dennis Gross, Caudalie, and the Dermalogica daily microfoliant powder.  Gotta keep exfoliated!

Hair Products

I don’t wash my hair everyday, so hair stuff isn’t a big deal.  I will use the hotel shampoo, but I do need a good conditioner.  I love the way the Bvlgari White Tea smells, so it’ll be nice to have my hair lightly scented with that gorgeous scent.  Add a volumizing cream, and I should be good to go.  I’ll throw my trusted Elnett hairspray in my bag as well.

Miscellaneous Fun Stuff:

Miscellaneous Random Stuff

I’ve got tons of Supergoop sunscreen from subscription boxes.  Thank goodness, because the sample size is just right for travel.  I’ve been anxious to try the Le Volume De Chanel mascara, Soap & Glory body butter, and the Amazing Concealer (it’s pretty pricey, so glad to be able to try it out first).  This Fresh Sugar Lip Polish mini has lasted me through several trips now.  I’m not super crazy about it, but the teeny size is perfect.

Going with the minimum.  Our resort is supposed to have an absolutely heavenly spa, and our package allows daily access – until 10pm!!  So I am planning on taking full advantage of that (and indulging in some treatments as well!).  And that is makeup optional of course.  The resort is nestled amongst some amazing canyons and offers daily hikes, yoga, meditation, and various types of fitness and exercise classes.  Again, makeup optional.  So I figured I wouldn’t need to be super glammed up on this trip, thus decided to keep it simple:  Ettusais BB cream, NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, Anastasia DipBrow, Tarte MultiplEye liquid liner, baby sized Benefit Coralista blush, and the original Lorac Pro palette.  I love how versatile the Pro palette is.  I’m covered whether I want to keep it neutral or smoky.

I am so looking forward to our getaway!  And trying out some new products.  I’ll let you know if there are any standouts!

Jetoy Choo Choo Kitty Makeup Bag

Oh, and I’m using this adorable makeup bag!

Do you pack samples, or do you take your regular products with you when you travel?

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

I am going to jump right into today’s post because I have found my FAVORITE lipstick!

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne!  Well, NARS Audacious Lipstick period.  Not for the color (which I do LOVE), but this formula!  It is everything!

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

I am very late to the party for these newly formulated lipsticks.  I was super excited when they launched back in September, but all the shades I was interested in were sold out when I went to purchase online.  So, I trudged to the mall to visit Sephora in person, only to be disappointed to discover they didn’t carry the full shade range in store.  Then I got distracted by the next bright, shiny object, and sorta forgot about them.  Tsk Tsk.

PS: This article has contribution of Sarah, a mom blogger from Visit her latest reviews – Best outdoor playhouse for kids

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

Fast forward a couple of months, and my misplaced thought about this lipstick resurfaced while walking around in Sephora.  Which is remarkable, as I am usually in makeup sensory overload/trance when I’m there.  After much hemming and hawing, I chose Jeanne.  Still not my first choice, as the color range was limited, but I was anxious to see what the fuss was about, so she came home with me.  Better late than never!

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

NARS describes Jeanne as “cherry red”.  I think it is sort of a deep red with a hint of brown.

NARS Audacious Lipstick Jeanne Swatch

As usual with me, the arm swatch looks very different than how it ends up on my lips.

And can I just say, I am a horrible swatcher.  How do people get such pretty, uniform swatch lines?  It looks like I am coloring outside the lines.  If you have any tips, please comment below!

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Jeanne

This is honestly the best formula I have ever experienced.  It delivers full opacity in one swipe.  It is super creamy and applies oh-so-smoothly.  You cannot even feel it on your lips.  It really feels like you are putting on your favorite lip balm (cue angels singing).  Wear time is about 4 hours for me.  It does require a small touch up after eating/drinking.  It doesn’t completely wear off after a meal.  You can still tell what color lipstick you are wearing.  The formula is not drying at all, nor does it settle into lip lines.  And it has no fragrance.

And the packaging!  It is a square, metal case with a magnetic lid that snaps it closed.  Magnetic closures are a major plus in my book.  It is super sleek and very chic, with the NARS logo etched into the base.

You can bet your sweet honey buns I will be getting more shades.  NARS Audacious is my jam.  Stay tuned!

Do you have a favorite, ride-or-die lipstick?

Current Skincare Products

Hey beauties!  Happy weekend.  We had a visit from winter this past week here in Georgia.  We had lows in the teens.  I have been trying to get my running game back on track as I detox my diet, and it was actually too cold to run one afternoon.  The wind was like a whip!  So I did some cardio indoors.  Boring.  I do feel for you people who have to deal with super frigid temps because you have “real” winter.  Oh, if I could only live in California.

I recently covered my morning skincare routine as well as my nighttime deal.  I didn’t want to include the additional treatments I use because it would have made the post too long.  So I am covering my current skincare products today.

Current Skincare Products

These items have been in my routine for a while.  I am a huge fan of exfoliating, so many of my favorites do just that.  Nothing like resurfacing some new skin on mah face!  As I’ve gotten older though, I try to stay away from the traditional rough, grainy scrubs.  They end up being too hard on my skin, and I feel they could worsen the redness that has plagued me over the last few years.  Don’t get me wrong, I miss them!  I felt like those really worked because I could “feel” it as I was scrubbing.  But the new formulations do a great job, sans the grains.

Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate & Glamglow Thirsty Mud Hydrating Treatment

Glamglow Youthmud and Thirstymud

These are much-hyped products that are really worth the raves.  The Youthmud gives “resurfacing exfoliation and smooths, brightens, and softens”.  Indeed, it does!  This is my favorite skincare treatment.  It is a mud/clay mask that you rinse off once it dries (removing it in circular motions provides the exfoliation).  It does tingle, almost sting, when you first apply it, but it only lasts for a second and doesn’t burn or anything while it’s on.  I love the earthy/herbal scent.

The Thirstymud “hydrates, moisturizes, restores, replenishes, and calms”.  You can either rinse it off after 10-20 minutes, or leave it on overnight.  I use it overnight.  The next morning my skin is super soft and feels incredible.  It’s also suitable for long haul flights.  It smells sweetly of honey and coconut.  The stuff of sweet dreams!

GlamGlow Youthmud (L) & GlamGlowThirstymud (R) Formulas

Quite different textures!

The next two products are exfoliants, but do not have chunky bits in it.

MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator & Ole Henriksen Sugar Glow Face Scrub

MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator

MAC Mineralize Volcanic Ash Exfoliator

This is jet black!  It is a “foaming, cleansing, exfoliating scrub with volcanic ash and fine sugar crystals; mineral rich” formula.  It smells clean and fresh, and smooths out your skin.  It does leave me feeling a little tight in winter, but of course I moisturize afterwards, so no biggie.

Ole Henriksen Sugar Glow Face Scrub

Ole Henriksen Sugar Glow Face Scrub Formula

I found this recently at my local Marshalls.  It appears it’s been discontinued by Ole Henriksen, but can be found on Amazon and other online retailers.  I included it because it is an awesome product!  The next day after my first use of this, my husband commented on how pretty my skin looked.  Well, that’s a big enough testimony of how great this stuff is for me! And he wasn’t even in the dog house or anything!  This includes “organic sugar from Paraguay, honey, grapefruit, tangerine, rose hips, pomegranate seeds, and African red tea to deep clean, smooth, and refine”.  The directions recommend using it in place of your regular cleanser, but I use it on no-makeup days.  It does have a bit of texture to it, but it’s not rough.  I am going to have to stock up on this, because I really love it.

Kracie Sheet Masks (from Japan)

Kracie Sheet Masks From Japan

This is a variety pack of Japanese sheet masks.

Kracie Sheet Masks

In case you are not familiar with these, they are a full faced mask made from soft cloth/cotton sheets that are saturated with “essence” (the liquid miracle to address whatever condition the mask is for).  The masks above are (L-R) tightening, clearing, and firming.  You leave them on your face for 5-20 minutes, remove the sheet, and pat the remaining essence into your face.

Kracie Japanese Sheet Mask On

Boo!  Pretty scary, huh?  The black one is really fun.  You can purchase these at Japanese grocers, or pretty much anywhere online.  I get whatever is available from my online Japanese grocer, Marukai.  And nowdays, most beauty products from Japan have directions in English.

Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask for Puffy Eyes

Origins No Puffery Cooling Mask for Puffy Eyes

Last, but not least, my favorite eye mask.  I have used this Origins gel for years.  I suffer from allergies, and just all around puffiness in my under eye area.  Though this does not completely eradicate my bags (nothing short of surgery will do that, unfortunately!), it is the best thing I’ve ever used to soothe the area and minimize the appearance of my bags.

I know it looks like a lot of products!  I alternate, depending on the season, and what’s going on with my skin.  I generally do all my treatments at night before bed, but occasionally I’ll use something in the morning if I’ve got something going on, or my skin looks bleh.

What are your favorite treatments?

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Hello beautiful people!  Happy Chinese New Year to those who celebrate!  My family lived in Taiwan many years ago, and I remember what a fun and festive time the Lunar New Year was.  Plus, we got to be out of school for like two weeks!  On top of just having the American Christmas holiday.  Oh, the good old days!

I believe this post on the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation will wrap up the reviews on my recent foundation splurges.  And as with the last few newbies I’ve tried out, this baby did not disappoint!

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

This is my first Laura Mercier foundation.  The shade offerings are rather limited at 10.  If you are on the fairer side complexion wise, you are in luck.  Deeper lovelies, you will be disappointed.  I am an NC40 in MAC, and I matched the darkest shade they have, Hazelnut Beige.  So, yours truly is as dark as the color chart gets with this one.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Hazelnut Beige

Hazelnut Beige is described as a “medium beige with neutral undertones”.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Hazelnut Beige

The color showing through the tube is the actual foundation.  I personally think it does have a rather yellow undertone, which is probably the reason the shade works for me.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation Hazelnut Beige Swatch

I love, love, love this foundation.  It is a rather full coverage formula, but leaves a luminous and dewy finish.  It also covered up my redness and hyper-pigmentation, so I did not have to use concealer to hide that ickiness.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation Hazelnut Beige

It comes in a handy squeeze tube, with instructions to “Shake Well”.  A little hard to do with a tube!  I just sort of squish it around and attempt to shake it up.  And let me tell you, a little goes a long way.  You can end up with serious cakeface if you put too much on.  You do need to work fast, as it does dry quickly.  I am dry (especially in winter), so it lasted all day on me without budging.

My beloved Shiseido foundation brush is my first choice to apply this.  Next is the Beauty Blender.  It is a tad thick, but is very creamy and applies smoothly, and I prefer the finish my brush gives.

So, another winner to add to my rotation.  Hopefully more shades will be added to cover darker complexions.

Are you a Laura Mercier fan?

Murphy says, “Hi!”.  He’s helping me by shedding all over my camera case. I just bought a new house for Murphy, if you’re a cat lover too, let’s check best outdoor cat house reviews on my friend’s blog!

Jordana Easyliner For Lips

Happy Valentines Day my loves!  If you celebrate it, I hope you had a wonderful day!  I personally have never been a big fan of Valentines Day.  I sort of think of it as a glorified holiday for greeting card companies and florists.  Even in my younger, more idealistic days, I never thought it was a big deal.  But to each his own, and hugs & kisses to those of you who embrace it!

I am going to keep on the drugstore makeup train that I’ve been on for the past few posts.  Today, I want to talk about the Jordana Easyliner For Lips.

Jordana Easyliner For Lips

Jordana has a great selection of shades available in these retractable lip pencils.  And they are $1.99 each!!!

Jordana Easyliner For Lips

The pencil is plastic, with a top that snaps back on nice and tight.  As long as you’ve popped it back on until it clicks (make sure!!!), that sucker isn’t going anywhere.  Which is a big plus, as most of my liners’ caps somehow manage to come off in my purse, wreaking havoc and mayhem in there.  Yuck.

Jordana Easyliner For Lips

I chose Rock N Rose, Tawny, and Plush Plum.

Jordana Easyliner For Lips (L-R): Rock N Rose, Plush Plum, Tawny

I figured these would cover a good range of lipstick shades.  Notice I didn’t get any ultra dark, vampy ones!  I thought the Rose would be a good neutral; Tawny for my browns; and Plum for my darker wines/berries.

Jordana Easyliner For Lips Swatches (L-R): Rock N Rose, Tawny, Plush Plum

Doesn’t it look like I switched the Rose and Tawny?  I swear they are in the correct order.  On my arm, the Rose swatched very brown, and Tawny very pink.  But on my lips they were more true to the color of the packaging.

Rock N Rose was a tad too light for me, but I will use it for my lighter lipsticks.  Tawny is a good neutral on me, and the Plush Plum is awesome.  I actually wore Plush Plum on it’s own the other day, and loved it.  These liners apply very easily, keep your lipstick in check, and wear a pretty decent amount of time.  Worn alone, they do not dry out your lips, and will stay on for hours, especially the darker plum liner.

I believe I am becoming a big Jordana fan.  You really can’t beat their quality, especially for the price.  As a rule, I am not a huge snob when it comes to lipliners.  If you can find a drugstore liner that performs, by all means use it!  Especially basic colors.  If I could find a dupe for MAC Stone and Currant liners, you bet your behind I’d switch in a heartbeat!  Of course if you know of any, let me know!

Milani Anti Feathering Lipliner Review

Hello sweetpeas!  I am a week and a half into my diet detox, and happy to report it’s going well.  I got a spiralizer last week, and have been making the yummiest dinners that are chock full of veggies.  Tonight was a lasagne made with butternut squash.  Delish!  I will admit I miss having my wine though!

I know I have been on a drugstore makeup kick lately.  When I was feeling yuck a couple of weeks ago, I found myself going to the pharmacy a lot more than usual to pick up things to try to relieve my symptoms.  Of course, you have to walk through the makeup department on your way back to where the meds are, right?  So naturally, I had to stop and check out what was new.  And boy, was there a lot of new!  Never fails; when I’m looking for something when I’m feeling good, zilch.  Get ill, and the isles are overflowing with new offerings.  Though this is not new, I finally got to pick up the Milan Anti Feathering Lipliner, and want to share a quick review with you.

Milani Anti Feathering Lipliner

I think Milani is one of the better drugstore brands.  I’ve yet to try something from them I don’t like.  Well, except the scent of their lipsticks.  I think I am the only person on the planet who thinks their lipsticks smell awful.  The formulas are great, but that fragrance is very off putting to me.  Moving on…..

Milani Anti Feathering Lipliner

This lipliner has been sold out each time I’ve looked for it, so I was happy to find one single, lonely package hanging by itself on the peg.  I was wondering how it would compare the the Makeup Forever clear lipliner that I had been using.

As you can see, it is “transparent” and can be used as a liner and/or primer (line filling!).

Milani Anti Feathering Lipliner

The pencil actually has a nice bit of heft to it, and looks pretty swanky.  Doesn’t feel cheap-y at all.

Milani Anti Feathering Lipliner Closeup

The formula is very creamy and easy to apply.  Since it is clear, you can use it with any color lipstick.  The pencil is plastic, but sharpened to a good point using my Urban Decay Grind House sharpener (the best sharpener out there).  As a liner, none of my red shades escaped past the clear demarcation line.  I also tested it as a primer under MAC Cyber, one of my favorites, which is sort of a pain to keep in place.  It did a fabulous job.  Cyber did not budge or cake into my lip lines.

I am happy to report this liner works just as good as the Makeup Forever one!  For real!

I did back to back comparisons with both.  The Milani is a bit tackier than MUFE, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.

The only lipstick neither could contain 100% was the L’Oreal Extraordinaire Plum Adagio.  No fault of the liner though.  I love this lipstick, but it always seeps outside my lip line.  Only the Plum Adagio does this (none of the other colors I own do).  Probably because it is so dark.  It wasn’t a total fail though.  It did a great job of keeping it from totally feathering out like it does without a liner.  I noticed after a couple of hours that my cupid’s bow area had the teeniest amount of bleeding.  Nothing horrible that a finger swipe couldn’t fix.  That’s just me being ultra super picky though.

I love this Milani liner.  I will be repurchasing this one, not the MUFE.  If you are in the market for a clear liner, this Milani one won’t do you wrong!

More Acrylic Makeup Storage

Hello my gorgeous people.  I have successfully managed to not get sucked into the Candy Crush craze (if that’s still even a thing).  I did enjoy Words with Friends, Song Pop – any game that had interaction with others.  My new thing is Trivia Crack.  My husband’s work people are notorious for finding the new “it” game.  So, in my spare time, you can find me playing trivia against my friends.  If you play, leave me your user name or come find me!  If you don’t play, and you like trivia, definitely download it onto your phone!  It’s a lot of fun.

I had been on a hunt for more acrylic makeup storage.  Namely, to hold my foundations.  They were all in the top drawer of my Alex unit, laying flat and settling in weird ways.  I wanted something tall enough to accommodate my bottles in an upright position, but with a lid.  I LOVE my Muji storage, so I checked there first.  No dice.

Acrylic Makeup Storage

Then, I was in Marshalls, and happened upon a huge selection of acrylic makeup/vanity storage.  And they had the PERFECT thing!

Acrylic Makeup Storage Cube With Lid

Ta-Da!  I picked up two of them.  And the price?

Acrylic Makeup Storage Cube

Can’t beat that!  I also picked up a couple of other pieces.

Acrylic Makeup Storage Sectional With Lid

This guy has four separate compartments, and a lid!  I will put the smaller things from my current rotation like lashes, glue, primers, etc in there.  It’s also the perfect size to fit a couple ColourPop shadows in each section.

The price?

Acrylic Makeup Storage Sectional

Not bad at all.

The reason I like “enclosed” storage (like Muji, and stuff with lids) is because I hate having to dust/clean each individual item, as well as the inside of the open container.  Plus, my kitties are always underfoot in my bathroom, and cat hair would get all into it.  I would love to keep my makeup brushes out on my counter, but have to keep them in the cabinet under the sink to avoid feline fluff.

The last piece I got is open.

Acrylic Makeup Storage Open

This is perfect for storing palettes.  This will get chucked in the cabinet also, but at least everything will be in one place.

The price?

Acrylic Makeup Storage Cube With Foundation

And here is my cube filled.  The BECCA full coverage was a touch too tall, but it worked just fine leaning it over.  Now I can have my foundations out and within easy reach.

Do you use acrylic storage?  What is your favorite?

Thanks for reading!  xoxo

Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks

Hello my lovely peeps!  I am finally over my yucky sinus crud!  So I have started my 28 day diet detox a month late.  No sugar, alcohol, or processed junk.  Whole foods only.  It should be fairly easy to stay on track since I don’t have anything major going on this month.

Today I want to talk about the new Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks

I couldn’t believe my Walgreens had a full display of these.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipsticks (Top to Bottom: Matte Classy, Matte Frappuccino, Matte It Girl, Matte Style)

The only item I’ve ever tried from Jordana is their Best Lash Extreme Volumizing Mascara, and I LOVE it.  So when I found these, I thought I’d give them a shot.  Especially at $2.49 each!  And they’re made in the USA.

Jordana Modern Matte LIpsticks (Top to Bottom: Matte Classy, Matte Frappuccino, Matte It Girl, Matte Style)

There are 12 shades available, from nudes to darks.  My picks were Matte Classy, Matte Frappuccino, Matte It Girl, and Matte Style.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Swatches (L-R: Matte Style, Matte It Girl, Matte Classy, Matte Frappuccino)

I was pretty impressed with how pigmented these were to swatch.  Though it only took a couple of passes on my arm, I did have to apply more layers on my lips to get decent opaqueness.  Especially with the lighter shades.

So onto the colors (which are my personal descriptions).  I’m a bit in ‘yo face with these pics because I’m still trying to figure stuff out with my camera (namely how close/far I need to be from it).  I’m going from light to dark:

Matte Classy – Mid-tone pink with a tinge of purple.

Jordana Matte Classy Closeup

This one required the most build up, but I think it’s because of my skintone.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Matte Classy

It is a little too pale for my liking.  Nothing against the color, just personal preference.  I think this would be gorgeous on fairer complexions.

Matte Frappuccino – Brown like a coffee drink, but with a tinge of red.

Jordana Matte Frappuccino Closeup

This required about 3 swipes to reach a level I liked.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Matte Frappuccino

Yup.  This is my kind of color!  This is about as nude as I like to go.

Matte It Girl – Cool berry, leaning towards fuchsia.

Jordana Matte It Girl Closeup

Wowzers.  I was hoping this was going to be more on the berry side, but it is a bright fuchsia on me.  This color was pretty easy to build up.  Please excuse that sloppy smudge.  I didn’t realize it was there until now.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Matte It Girl

Pink is my favorite color, but I am not a fan of it on my lips for some reason.  This one is definitely very fuchsia on me.

Matte Style – Bright red with a tinge of coral.

Jordana Matte Style Closeup

This red took a few swipes to reach opaqueness.  The edges of my lips are a bit red here from switching lipsticks for the photos.  I did this one last.

Jordana Modern Matte Lipstick Matte Style

This one is my favorite of the bunch.

As you can see, the formula is not a full-on matte.  It does have a bit of sheen to it.  The texture is hard to describe – it’s sort of waxy, but dry (if that makes any sense at all).  It applies fairly easy, though I did have to build it up.

It does have a slight fragrance, like a crayon.  But you have to put it right up to your nose to detect it.  It was pretty comfortable to wear, and did not dry my lips out at all.  The lighter shades wore evenly; the darker shades did also but left a slight stain (especially It Girl).  They lasted around 3 hours.  Of course, you need to touch it up after eating.

Overall, I think these are great for the price.  If you have been wanting to experiment with a certain color without investing a lot, this is the perfect lipstick to try.  The shade range is pretty impressive. If they had other colors I liked, I definitely would purchase more.

Have you tried the Modern Mattes?  Do you have a favorite Jordana product?

Again, thanks for reading!  xoxo

Maybelline Brow Precise Review

Hello beautiful people!  Now that most of my regularly watched TV shows have finished their seasons, I’ve started looking for other programs to get sucked into.  My first choice was “House Of Cards”.  For me, there is a delicious decadence in being able to binge watch seasons of a show (if you like it, of course!).  The first season was good, but not an, “I’m so hooked, I’m gonna stay up all night watching five episodes back-to-back”, kind of good.  The second season is a whole different story!  I’m there!  I am not even going to tell you how late I stayed up last night watching.  “The Good Wife” is next.  Let me know your favorites so I can give those a whirl!

I am also always trying to find the “next best thing” in brow products; so here is my Maybelline Brow Precise review.

Maybelline Brow Precise

Before I even start, I would like to point out a discrepancy between the pencil shown under the word “precise” on the package vs the actual pencil.  ???

Maybelline Brow Precise

On a recent trip to the drugstore (I think CVS?), there was a display of new brow products from Maybelline Eye Studio featuring eyebrow pencils and brow mascaras.  I chose the brow pencil (excuse me, “shaping pencil”) in Deep Brown.  There are 3 other color offerings: Blonde, Soft Brown, and Auburn.

The display was all about “The Brow Look: Naturally Shaped Brows”.  Sounds good to me!

My brows require a lot of work because they are very sparse.  Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products are my Holy Grail.  They are a bit pricey; so anytime I see something with potential, I’m all about testing it out.  Especially if I can find an option from the drugstore!

Maybelline Brow Precise

The Brow Precise offers the brow pencil on one end; a spoolie on the other.

Maybelline Brow Precise

It is a wood pencil that requires sharpening.

Maybelline Brow Precise

I think the spoolie is sort of on the small end, but it is really firm and does a great job.

The texture of this pencil is very soft and creamy.  It really sticks to your brow hairs, and keeps them in place.  It’s almost like a pencil/wax combo.

If you are someone that already has good brows and only need something to enhance what you’ve already got, this is the perfect for you!

However, if you are like me, and need to sort of paint your eyebrows on (especially the tail), and do a lot of filling in, this may not be the best option.  Since the formula is so creamy, it didn’t do a great job of creating a tail.  Also since it is so soft, I had to sharpen it after each use since I had to use a good bit of product.

I will use it up, but won’t repurchase.  It is a great pencil, but doesn’t meet my brow needs.  I will keep it afterwards for the spoolie though!

Overall, I think this is a great product, just not for me.

Again, thanks for reading!!!  xoxo

ColourPop Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils

Hello my peeps!  I have spent the better part of this week still trying to get over this crud.  I mean, seriously, how much snot can one person’s head produce!! Where does it come from?  My head and sinuses are still so full of pressure.  Ugh.  Thank goodness someone invented the Neti Pot.  If they hadn’t, I think my noggin would have exploded leaving behind something akin to ectoplasm!  As in “Ghost Busters”.  Me, sink, saline solution, warm water, Neti, and kleenex have been one these past few days.

ColourPop Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils

Despite all my congestion issues, I wanted to share my thoughts on the ColourPop Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencils.  Afterwards, I have a date with my sink.  And Neti.

ColourPop Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencils (top to bottom: Bichette, Dalia, Creature)

My picks were Bichette, Dalia, and Creature. All three are matte formulas.

As with my last ColourPop Eye Shadow review, my pics are all over the place (thank you head cold and meds).

ColourPop Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencils Swatches (L-R: Bichette, Creature, Dalia)

I ordered both the Lippie Stix and Lippie Pencil in Bichette and Creature.  I got the Lippie Stix only for Dalia.  I figured the Lippie Pencil for Creature would work for Dalia, and it did!

I thought about doing different photos for pencil alone, pencil with stix, stix alone. But it would have been way too photo heavy and I would have had to spread it out into several posts.  So I will consolidate it for you.

The Lippie Liner is an exact match for the Lippie Stix.

ColourPop describes it as “deep red wine”:

ColourPop Bichette Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencil Closeup

ColourPop Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencil Bichette

On me it is a lighter, cool toned red.  I lined my lips with the pencil, and filled in with the stix.  You could fill your lips with the pencil first, then apply the stix; but it is so pigmented, there’s really no reason to.  The pencil keeps the color in check from fading/bleeding.

Again, the Lippie Liner is an exact match for the Lippie Stix.

ColourPop describes it as “deepened blackened burgundy red”:

ColourPop Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencil Creature Closeup

ColourPop Lippie Stix And Lippie Pencil Creature

On me, it is more of deep berry/burgundy.  In this photo, I also lined my lips with the pencil, and filled in with the stix.  Again, this shade is so pigmented, you really don’t need to double dip.

The lippie pencil for Creature actually works for this color.

ColourPop describes it as “deep warm burgundy wine”:

ColourPop Lippie Stix Dalia

My lips aren’t lined with the Creature pencil, but it does work.

Honestly, Creature and Dalia are very close in color.  Though it’s hard to tell in the photos, Dalia has a bit of a copper/brown tinge to it, as you can see in the swatches.  But they can share a Creature or Dalia lip pencil interchangeably.

Since matte formulas and darker shades are my favorite, I am really happy with my choices from ColourPop.  They have performed great on a day-to-day basis with bold colors that last.  Matching lip pencils are always a plus.  Since I do tend lean towards bolder shades, having a lip pencil to help keep it in line is awesome.

I am very impressed with the matte formulas that I chose.  They were very pigmented, easy on the lips, and had great staying power.  After eating/drinking, you do need a touch up.  The lipsticks were never drying/uncomfortable on the lips.

If you do use a lippy pencil all over your lip, and apply the lippy stix, your color won’t budge.  A bit of overkill for my color picks, but in lighter/neutral shades, I would recommend it if you are needing a bit of extra staying power.

Again, thank you for reading!  xoxo

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow

Hello my lovelies!  Thank you so much for your kind words/thoughts on the passing of my sweet baby Atticus.  It really meant a lot seeing your comforting messages.  We’re still trying to get back on track.  Mr. KP left earlier for an ice fishing trip this weekend to Minnesota.  NO WAY in hell I’m doing that.  It’s cold enough here in Georgia.  So, I will keep the homestead down, and blog about makeup.  I have been stricken with an awful sinus/head/chest crud that’s made me miserable.  Throw into that several bouts of crying = not a pretty face for blog photos.  I trudge on….

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow

Today I want to talk about ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadows!  I usually try to keep my products in the same order when I photograph them, but for some reason these wound up all over the place.

ColourPop Shipping Packaging

My order was shipped completely enshrouded in the best packaging possible.  No damage.  I think it says a lot about a company that takes great care to ensure your goodies arrive to you safe and sound.  And, you get a hand written thank you note.  How awesome is that????  Thank you ColourPop for thinking I have the goods with which to twerk.  As always, the photographs do not do these babies justice.  They are so beautiful and sparkly!  And they are all sort of a duo chrome glittery finish.

My choices (L-R, top to bottom): Dare, So Quiche; Krinkle, Vixen

I love the packaging.  So simple.  Screw top with a window to see the color.

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadows (Top L – Dare, Top R – Krinkle; Bottom L – So Quiche, Bottom R – Vixen

Told you that I was all over the place.  So, let’s discuss each shadow individually!  The descriptions are in my own words, based on how they show up on me.

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow Dare

This shows up more like a fuchsia pink than purple; there is a bit of pink and purple glitter mixed in.  I really like it.

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow Krinkle

This is a true aqua shade to me – with bits of silver and gold mixed in.  It makes me think of a mermaid – hey, Julie, this is truly a shade for you!

So Quiche:

**Before I talk about this beauty, I dropped it from about 5 FT onto my tile floor before I took the closeup**

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow So Quiche

This is a beautiful gold with with a tinge of pink glitter.  I think it shows how great this brand is – in that it still held together, despite my clumsiness.  So Yay ColourPop!

Colourpop Super Shock Eye Shadow Vixen

This was a Limited Edition shade offered during Cyber Monday.  It is a great rust/copper brown. Just wanted to show it in the event it was offered again.  I am not really sure why it doesn’t have the honeycomb pattern the others do???

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow Finger Swatches (Top to bottom: Dare, Krinkle, So Quiche, Vixen)

**Please excuse my ratchet nails.  I was in dire need of a mani, but it got put on the back burner.  The situation has since been remedied.**

ColourPop Super Shock Eye Shadow Swatches (L-R: Dare, Krinkle, So Quiche, Vixen)

These were swatched without primer.  As you can see, they aren’t as “metallic” looking when blended out.  Dare and Krinkle applied more sheer than I would have imagined.  But don’t get me wrong, I love them.  You can always apply over a darker base for more opaqueness.  Of course, if you are fairer complected, they will probably be pretty vibrant.

The formula of these shadows is hard to describe.  They feel sort of sponge-y in the pot, like you could push your finger all the way through.  I’m sure that’s possible.  But it really is a powder.

Fallout was minimal.  Really.

ColourPop Dare Eye Shadow

Y’all know I am not a makeup artist by any stretch of the imagination, but this is Dare on my peepers.  I didn’t apply lashes or do crazy eyeliner so you could get the full gist of the color.  Damn small lid space and hooded Asian eyes (and lashes!!!!).

For me, the best way to apply these shadows is with my finger.  I do use a teeny, compact eye shadow brush from Coastal Scents to work it into my inner eyelid, because if I used my finger, it would be halfway to the bridge of my nose (damn lid space again!).

ColourPop products are $5, and made right here in the US.  And cruelty free.  For those of you outside of the States, they are adding more countries that they ship to.  Stay tuned for my lipstick reviews from ColourPop.

In all seriousness, I embrace my ethnicity and my quirks.  They are what make me, “ME”.   Y’all give yourselves a big hug, and love all the things that set you apart from others.

Again, thanks for reading!

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

Hello beautiful people!  I’ve now eliminated “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “American Sniper” from my list of Oscar nominated films to see.  I enjoyed them both, but for completely different reasons.  I’ve got three down, and four to go!  I believe “The Imitation Game” will be next.  I really love movies, and need take more time to just sit still and watch a few.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

I have really been on a foundation kick lately, and am happy to report that everything I’ve tried, I’ve loved.  The BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme is no exception.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

To be perfectly honest, I have never been a fan of full coverage foundations.  In fact, this is the FIRST full coverage formula I have ever tried.  I’ve always preferred a light to medium finish, but as I’ve gotten older, I realize that I got a good bit of stuff that needs covering!!!  And sometimes, you just might want a bit more of an “air-brushed” look for an event.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme In Olive

This baby offers 20 shades; from the fairest of fair to the deliciously chocolate.  My perfect match is “Olive”.  For comparison purposes, I am NC40 in MAC.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

This foundation has a pump (yay!).  Honestly, a full pump is a bit too much.  I do the “funky finger, just a half pump please” dance with when trying to dispense.  Wish I could provide a video.  Really.  It’s a real thing.

BECCA The One Perfecting Brush

As much as I love the BECCA One Perfecting Brush, it is not the best applicator for this foundation  (as you can see, this brush has gotten a lot of love from me!).  This brush tends to grab too much of this product, and can cause a full coverage disaster.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme Olive Swatch

The key to beautiful application of this foundation is to use small amounts, and BLEND as quickly as possible.  I mean work Ninja fast – one section of your face at a time.  I prefer my Shiseido Foundation Brush for this formula.

BECCA Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme

As you can see, the formula is a bit thick (and above is the half-pump I just described).  I barely touched the left side to swatch.  So, while it is a thicker formula, if you are diligent with application (blend, blend, blend), you will get a gorgeous finish.  No cake face.  Aside from under eye concealer, I did not have to use any other camouflage on my face. It covered my redness and hyper-pigmentation perfectly.  For my fellow mature ladies, as long as you don’t over-apply, it does not settle into lines/wrinkles.

If you follow me on social media, you know I lost one of my beloved cats. Few more words about my cats, they just had new friends, 2 cute bunnies, they all live in a same house – a very large outdoor rabbit hutch – with happiness.

In memory of my sweet rescue kitty, Atticus (January 20, 2015).  RIP.  He always made time to make us stop and be loving.

Again, thanks for reading!

Current Evening Skincare Routine

Hello Lovelies!  After the (ho-hum) Golden Globes, and the announcement of the Oscar nominated movies this year, I realized I had not seen any of the said films.  I hate when that happens.  Must correct.  Hubs and I are planning to see “American Sniper” this weekend (NO spoilers please!!!!).  Last night, we watched “Boyhood”.  While I think the concept of filming actors over a twelve year period is absolute genius, the almost three hour story left me me wanting a bit more.  I do love me some Patricia Arquette though!

Onto my current evening skincare routine!

Current Evening Skincare Routine

Much like my morning ritual, I am a bit of a stickler in terms of staying with the tried and true.  I don’t change my skincare up that much.

Current Evening Skincare Routine

First thing at night, makeup removal.

I have been using the Maybelline Clean Express eye makeup remover for a while. You can’t really see it in the photo, but there is a bottom layer and top layer that requires shaking up to blend, although the formula is oil free.  I am not sure exactly how that works, but it works.  Pour it on a cotton pad, hold it against your lashes for a few seconds to melt away the mascara, then swipe away the rest of your eye makeup.  It does not sting, and is very gentle.  And you can actually see afterwards because you don’t have heavy, oily makeup remover in your eyes.

That being said, I am totally in love with cleansing oils for the rest of my face.  I had been using Philosophy’s “Purity Made Simple” (liquid) cleanser for years.  When they came out with an oil version (mineral oil free), I was all about it.  You simply apply this ultra lightweight oil all over your face, massage it it in, apply a bit of warm water to emulsify, rinse off, and you’re good!

Clarisonic Luxe Cashmere Cleanse Brush Head

However, I do use my Clarisonic  Mia at night (after emulsifying the Philosophy cleansing oil).  The Luxe Cashmere Cleanse brush is the reason why.  I know the photo looks like the brush is wacky out-of-focus, but it is so luxe soft, it really looks like that (like the top of the actual brush head box!).  I used the Sensitive skin brush initially, but found it tended to make my skin a little pink.  This brush is extremely gentle but still cleans really well.  I do love my Clarisonic, but use it only at night.

Current Evening Skincare Routine

After the cleansing ritual, I apply my prescription skincare eye cream, and Renova.

picture-of-Shiseido Bio Performance Advanced Super Revatilizing Cream

Shiseido Bio Performance Advanced Super Revatilizing Cream

Final step is my beloved Shiseido Bio-Perfromance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream.  Especially when it’s cold.

I am still testing out a few new products.  Stay tuned!

Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water

Hello Everyone!  My blog got a makeover!  I am really happy with the way it turned out.  I also got a new camera for Christmas that I am still trying to figure out.  Lots of exciting things going on here at KP Says!

I have always been curious about micellar cleansing waters.  However, they aren’t readily available here in the US.  So I checked out my options, and decided to try out the  Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water.

Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water

Bioderma seems to be the holy grail amongst these waters.  I am too paranoid about counterfeit product to order from Amazon or Ebay; which is the only way we can get Bioderma here.

Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water

If you aren’t familiar with the concept of micellar water, it is a one-step, no water/no soap method of cleansing.  You apply the water with cotton pads to remove your makeup and treat your skin.

Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water

Caudalie is a French brand that is easily accessible here, so I thought it was a great choice.  They began their journey into skincare from a vineyard, basing their line on the many antioxidant benefits of grapes and grape-seed – which equals WINE, which is a-okay with me.

Caudalie Make Up Remover Cleansing Water

As you can see, this water contains organic grape water and camomile; and is hypoallergenic.

I love the fragrance – very fresh and spa-like.  Not overwhelming or irritating.  I really love the scent.  It also did not sting my eyes – big plus!

I did find that it takes a lot of cotton rounds and product to completely remove ALL of my makeup.  And I don’t wear a TON.

I also found that on the occasion I wore multiple coats of mascara, it took a lot of effort (and product) to dissolve it.  No aggressive tugging.  Just a lot of time.

However, it did leave my skin feeling soft and supple with no tightness or stickiness.

Nothing against this cleansing water, but I feel a need to “wash” my face after using it.  I think it is all about personal preference.  I think I require water for my face to feel clean.

For me, it is a good alternative for times when I simply can’t do my usual routine (for whatever reason).  I would rather do my normal multi-step makeup removal before bed.

Have you tried water cleansing?

Again, thanks for reading!

NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Enamored

Hello Loves!  I hope everyone survived the holiday season, and brought in the New Year with great panache!  With no hangovers!  Hubs and I attended the Belk Bowl Game in Charlotte, NC at the Panther’s stadium on Dec. 30th to cheer on our Georgia Bulldogs (against the Louisville Cardinals).  We were actually in the Club Level seats, so that was an unexpected surprise.  Nice wine bistro, beer snob selections approved by my husband – all good!  Plus we won, 37/14.    And got to experience Uber Cab for the first time.  It definitely is the way to go!  Wish it was available in Augusta.  Works like a charm, with no worries of drinking and driving.  All that being said, I did over imbibe, and pretty much felt yucky New Year’s Eve.  We just took it easy on the couch, watched more football, made an easy gourmet dinner, and watched the ball drop.  Then off to bed.  I think this is the first time in my entire life I was not capable of having champagne to ring in the New Year!  And December 31st was our anniversary!  Happy 17 years of marriage (I was a child bride)!  I’m still a bit wonky today.  Did manage the traditional New Year’s Day lunch of black eyed peas & collard greens to set us up for luck in 2015.  It’s a totally southern thing (I should do a post on it).

Anyways, on to my review of the NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Enamored!

NYX Vamp Lip Cream Enamored

I didn’t even know this collection was in existence until I ordered some NYX Wicked Lipies on the NYX site.  I usually prefer ordering NYX lip products direct; as they are a hot, opened up, smushed up everywhere mess at my Ulta store (as well as CVS that just started carrying them).  They are great products, but I don’t want one that’s been opened up and used.  I ordered my last batch of Butter Glosses direct also.  So nice to have them arrive in a shipping box hermetically sealed, as I bitch about how to tear the plastic zipped casings off and try not to break a nail!  How those people manage it in Ulta, I don’t know?  Because I have to use a tool.

NYX Simply Vamp Enamored Lip Cream

The “Simply” line comes in Simply Red, Simply Pink, Simply Nude, and Simply Vamp; each with six different color options.

NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream in Enamored Closeup

I chose Vamp “Enamored”, described as a “deep brown with burgundy pearl”.  You can so see it in the tube.  *Plus* – it is a retractable pencil, with no need to sharpen!

NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Enamored Swatch

On me, the swatch is a bit of a copper-y brown, with a bit of a pearl – maybe burgundy?

NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Enamored Finger Swatch

I LOVE the shade, and it really is more “metallic” on me than “pearl”, but with definite shades of burgundy.

NYX Simply Vamp Lip Cream Lip Swatch

The lip crayon was super easy to apply/work with, but I did have to do some finger smudging/setting along the edges of my lips because it did leave some patchiness.

NYX Simply Vampy Lip Cream Enamored

(Selfie in action).

The formula is really thin, and lightweight.  This shade was not drying.  But it was a sort of a pain, because I had to either check where it was on my lips, or reapply where it got patchy.  I would assume because I am used to total opaque/matte lip crayons.   If you manage a good application, you’re good (for around 3 hours).

I would put this lip cream for special occasions/parties.  I am not sure it’s practical for day-to-day, though I could wear this shade everyday.  If you haven’t checked out the other “Simply” lines from NYX, they might be worth your while.  I chose the “Simply Vamp” line, because that is what I usually gravitate towards;  but again, not for work/daily. I do love “Enamored”, and will more than likely get more shades from this color selection!

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation Review

Hello my worn out Santa’s helpers!  I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas filled with family, friends, overeating, drinking too much, and making great memories.  Those of you with little kiddos, I trust that your hearts were turned into indescribable mush watching the pure joy of your babies tearing into their presents Christmas morning.  One good thing about being Grinch-y is that I have nothing to take down/put up.  I’m ready for the New Year with no fuss, no muss!

I have been on a foundation kick lately.  I guess all of the new offerings have dazzled me like bright and shiny objects.  One such glittery distraction was the new YSL foundation.  I’ve been wearing it for a month or so, and thought I’d share my YSL Fusion Ink Foundation review!

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

As with all Yves Saint Laurent cosmetics, the packaging is gorgeous.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

Beautiful right?  *sigh*

According to the box, the formula is supposed to be ultra lightweight with the color/staying power of ink.  Doesn’t sound very sexy does it?  Ink?  Honestly, it makes me think of the old school Bic ball point pens.  You know, the ones that transferred blue ink on the side of your hand as you were writing a paper if your hand happened across the paragraph you just wrote?  I personally don’t like to associate my foundation with “ink”.

Sorry for that tangent.  Moving on….

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

There are 21 shade offerings, ranging from Neutral (B), Cool (BR), and Warm (BD).  Whatever your complexion, I think they have you covered.  It also has SPF 18.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

BD 50, Warm Honey, is a perfect match for me.  Per the label above, you need to shake, shake, shake.  The formula really is lightweight, so when you shake, shake, shake, it sounds like water (or maybe a bottle of ink).  :D

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation

The bottle is frosted glass with a great deal of heft.  The gold cap pops off to reveal the applicator.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation Applicator

I wasn’t sure what to think of this when I first opened it.  I knew I wasn’t going to touch the applicator directly to my face.  The instructions state the applicator is designed to dispense the perfect amount of product to your face or hand.  So, I plop it on the back of my hand.  Works just fine.

YSL Fusion Ink Foundation Swatch

The left is the foundation applied straight to my arm, the right is a tiny bit semi blended (you know what I mean).  Was an icky day when I took this photo, and my arm was really cold, hence the blotchiness.  I should have stood in a hot shower before this shot :)

Okay.  Now for my thoughts (finally, right????).

It has a slight floral scent.  As a rule, I prefer my foundations to be fragrance free, as I think fragrance can be an irritant.  However, I did not have any adverse reaction to it being scented (whew!).  And once it settles in, you can’t smell it.  However, if you are sensitive to fragrance, get a sample at Sephora or Nordstrom.

I have never encountered a foundation like this.  It really is ultra light weight, like water (or a feather, according to the box).  I have applied it with a Beauty Blender, my fingers, and brushes.  It seems to work best with my beloved Shiseido foundation brush.

You sort of have to work fast with this formula, as it dries very quickly once applied.  You can’t do your entire face with a couple swipes on the back of your hand.  Gotta work in sections.  I put it on the back of my hand from the applicator, dab my brush into it, and buff into my skin.  By then, the remainder on my hand has already dried. So I apply the next bit on the back of my hand, buff; next bit, buff; until I have covered my face.  It really does take a only a small amount.  But you gotta work quickly.  It is easy to apply, and it really does melt into your skin with no problem.  Could that be the “fusion”?

Once you get the hang of the application (takes a few tries), your skin has a ethereal soft-matte finish.  I would say medium coverage, but buildable if you want.  REALLY nice.  Since it is a soft-matte, you won’t look like you’re wearing a plastic, skin-tight Halloween scary mask on your face.  You can smile, laugh, whatever you do.  And know your skin is looking very good on it’s own.

So, I am not fond of the name (or brand description) of this foundation.  Not a deal-breaker.  I don’t like the applicator.  Problem solved.  I had to get my initial whining out of the way.  I have really enjoyed using this bad boy, and he is in my rotation for when I need a smooth canvas for my face that is a bit matte.

Me, wearing the YSL Fusion Ink Foundation on in one of my blog photos.

That being said, my Holy Grail Chantecaille is a wide open jar of foundation.  I do use sanitized skincare “paddles” to dispense my Chantecaille.  The YSL will definitely be in my rotation, as I DO love it.  However, my Chantecaille is still my favorite.

Current Morning Skincare Routine

Hello my lovely peeps!  My blogging schedule has been all over the place (and sometimes non-existent) over the past couple of months.  You know when you’re not really “busy”, but have a lot going on?  That’s been my life.  My sweet hubby is a respiratory therapist in a Level IV NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) here at our local children’s hospital.  If you don’t know what NICU is, it is basically a “nursery” unit for premature and/or sick infants.  Level IV means they take in the sickest babies from our entire region.  I usually blog on evenings when he is at work.  Unfortunately, they have had a lot of sick babies these past several weeks, and he has been putting in a lot of hours.  So our day to day life has been all over the place, as has my blogging.  So, here I am on Saturday night happily posting my current morning skincare routine.  I am hoping to get back to some sense of normalcy after the holidays.

Morning Skincare Routine

I am a stickler when it comes to skincare.  While I am happy to experiment with makeup, I tend to not deviate from things that come into direct contact with my face, whether it be skincare or foundation!

I remember reading a magazine article years ago that stated all you needed for your AM routine was cleanser, SPF, and an antioxidant to fight free radicals/cellular damage (moisturizer if needed). I’ve kept to that, but have added a few things that work for me.

Another point in that article was that cleansers aren’t on your face long enough to make a significant impact on your skin, so don’t pay huge amounts of money on something you wash your face with.

That being said, here is my morning ritual.

Step 1:

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Cleanser.  I have used Cetaphil for years.  Super gentle and inexpensive.  I massage a couple of pumps onto my dry face, and rinse with warm water.  My skin feels great, with no super “tight” feeling.

Step 2:

Obagi Elastiderm Eye Complete Complex Serum

Eyes.  After cleansing, I apply an eye serum.  My current favorite is the Obagi ELASTIderm roller ball.  This really soothes under eye bags.  Whatever your age, definitely use an eye cream!!  The younger you start, the better.

Step 3:

Exuviance Daily Antioxidant Peel Pads

Antioxidant.  I have used these Exuviance Daily Antioxidant Peel Pads for years, and I swear by them.  It comes in a kit with the antioxidant formula in a glass bottle that you dump into this frosty glass jar of pads.  I really has improved the look of my skin.

Exuviance Daily Antioxdant Peel Pads

These pads exfoliate and smooth, and deliver potent antioxidant protection with 10% citric acid.  You swipe a pad across your face, tap the remaining excess into your skin, and wait for it to dry.  From here on out, the products are all about applying and letting them dry before you move onto the next.  I swear, my skincare takes longer than my makeup.  And takes up more space in my luggage when I travel.

Step 4:

Shiseido White Lucent Skincare

Treatment/Moisturizer.  Products I use after the antioxidant pads are from the Shiseido White Lucent line – my serum and moisturizer, which I have been using for a very long time also.

Being half-Japanese, Shiseido has been a part of my life forever.  My Mom used nothing but Shiseido, and every time I use it, I think of her.

One confusing thing about Japanese skincare “whitening” lines;  do they “whiten” you, like fade dark spots, or do they “brighten” your complexion???  I am not really sure.  I don’t think anyone really knows.

Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum

The Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum has done wonders for my skin.  It is a super light serum that is instantly absorbed, making your face feel soft and super toned.

Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum

It comes with a pump that dispenses the right amount of product.  Again, it’s all about applying the serum to your face, and allowing it to sink in before going on with the next product.  Dry, dry, dry.

I typically have backups for things I love, and when trying to find links to share for this post, it appears my beloved serum has been replaced by Shiseido for an “improved” product.  Hmmm…..

Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Protective Cream

Oh, this moisturizer!  It is super light, almost gel-like, and your skin will just soak it up.  Almost drink it up.  It has a tinge of fragrance (that is so Shiseido to me!) but not overwhelming.  The most perfect daytime moisturizer, as your face will look fab, and not feel greasy/heavy.

I spent my youth baking my face in the sun.  I am paying for it now with melasma, brown spots, hyperpigmentation, etc.  I wish I could tell you that the Shiseido White Lucent line will get rid of brown spots, hyperpigmentation, and the like.  But it won’t.  It hasn’t for me at least.  However, all that being said, I LOVE this line, as it makes my skin look great.  Maybe for me it isn’t so much whitening, as it is brightening?  I have some Japanese bloggers that I need to get clarity from (you know who you are).

Step 5:

Obagi Nu-Derm Sunscreen

The fun police, Mr. Sunscreen.  I know it’s a buzz-kill, but sunscreen is the best skincare ever.  It is the final step of my skincare after everything I’ve applied (dry, dry, dry!).  Although SPF is in my moisturizer, foundation, etc, it is the last thing I put on my face before makeup.

I have been testing out a couple of new products.  I am still not sure if I will make any change ups.  Stay tuned!  I plan to cover my evening routine and weekly treatment stuff in a separate post.

Again, thanks for reading!  kxoxo
