Lime Crime Velvetines Salem and Wicked

Hello Sweethearts!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.  I have had the most annoying twitch in my left eye for the past two weeks!!!  You know, the kind that you can literally see moving in your line of vision?  It only starts jumping when I’m really focused on something, like reading or typing on the computer.  Like I am now.  I wish it would just STOP.  I’m afraid to Google what it might mean.  I learned a long time ago to not diagnose myself via the internet.  Believe me, according to the conclusions I have conjured up for myself from WebMD, I am lucky to be alive!  Any dire prognosis aside, if you have any remedies please share!

I have been wanting to try the Lime Crime Velvetine liquid lipsticks for quite a while.  Their best selling shade is Wicked.  I swear it’s been out of stock for nearly a year.  Really.  So when they finally restocked, I decided to place my order.  I chose Lime Crime Velvetines Salem and Wicked.

Lime Crime Velvetines

This is the box it was shipped in.  How adorable is that?

If you aren’t familiar with the Velvetines, it is a liquid to matte, long lasting lipstick that applies with a wand.

I think the packaging is really cute.  The tubes are frosted plastic.  The top is Salem.  Apparently, they changed the overall design, as Wicked (newly stocked) is a bit different.  The Salem box says “Liquid to Matte Lipstain”, and the Wicked box says “Liquid Matte Lipstick”.  Potato-Potahto.

Ditto with the labels.

Before I continue with swatches, etc, let me just tell y’all, when I do lipstick reviews, I put the product straight on my lips.  I do not use any lip primers, balms, lip liners, etc, so I can give you an accurate representation of said product.  Pretty much what you see is what you get.  So, I will give my opinion after the below pics.

So, here we go!

First up is Salem.  It is a dark chocolate-y brown.  And brown it is!

Next up is the highly sought-after Wicked.  it is a gorgeous blood/burgundy/red.

Okay.  First off, these Velvetines have a really sweet, vanilla cupcake scent (which I love).  Not overwhelming.

Second – for me, they were really hard to work with.  I don’t know if it is because I have really skinny chicken lips.  I was not able to take the wand and just go with it and “apply”.  As you can see in my closeup shots, it was a bit messy.  However, if you are blessed with full lips, you may find it easier than me.  I do find if I work it around with my finger with a lip liner, it works just fine.  However, my finger is stained, and I have to remove the stain with makeup remover.  Soap and water doesn’t touch it.

Overall, it is a long lasting formula.  I’ve managed 6+ hours wear, but it does wear out in the center of the lips, and hang out on the outer corners.

Also, once you apply, it really is a liquid to matte, that takes time to set, and while you’re waiting, you may find yourself like this.

Overall, I really do like this lipstick.  It really works best with a lip liner.

Again, thanks for reading!  Have you tried any Lime Crime products?  What is your take??

OMG I HAVE HAD A TWITCH IN MY LEFT EYE FOR LIKE 3 WEEKS! It’s now moved to my lip! I swear I’m gonna die and if I do I gotta get back to Georgia one last time!

These remind me of Australis Velourlips – suuuuuper matte and hard to work with!

Wow! These are some high-impact lip colors for sure! I totally know what you mean about them being hard to apply. The lipsticks that have an applicator like that are always so messy for me. I guess that’s how it goes when you have thin lips! Have you tried using a lip brush with these? I wonder if that would make a difference. I hope your eye gets better!

Holy hell that pigment is amazeballs! Your seriously rockin it! I seriously need to try lime crime still haven’t tried it! Gah I kno I need to be shunned. I get that annoying twitch all the time when I’m stressed out! What I do is start taking deep breaths breathe in through my nose then exhale with my mouth, really focus on taking that breath, when your so busy throughout the day sometimes we forget to do the little things ;) great post!

Thanks Rouge! It’s hard to catch them with stuff in stock. I had to wait a year before ordering. These Velvetines are definitely very pigmented. Hoping my twitch goes away soon!

I bought Wicked for myself and Salem for a friend a few weeks ago. Love the boxes and packaging and the colours are beautiful. I also love the ultra matte velvet look to the lips but have to exfoliate and moisturise like mad beforehand. I completely agree with you though, first application I always get it in the rim of my mouth/onto my teeth and I find it so hard to just apply it with the wand – it’s useless! I apply a dollop to the centre of the lips and spread it/perfect it with a lip brush. Not travel friendly or something I’d do on the go but it’s worth it for the colour and longevity! :) x

I totally agree! They are so pigmented, and worth the little bit of application drama. I’ve been using my finger, but then my finger is stained! :D Thank you for visiting!

I hate when my eye twitches! It most likely means you’re tired or stressed though, so no worries :) I’ve been told by my Dr never to go on WebMD, because I was convinced I had cancer haha

I’m on the fence with this brand – there are scathing reviews of their business practices online and apparently there has been controversy with how they treat bloggers. Sephora carried them for about 24 hours, then dropped them – I’ve heard various stories as to why, but it all seems shady.

Aside from all that, the red looks great on you and wow these appear so pigmented! The setting time would bug me though, no has time for that! lol

I did not know anything about all the controversy surrounding the brand until after I had placed my order. Someone had posted a pic on IG about Sephora carrying her lipsticks the day after I ordered. I saw a ton of comments talking about their business practices, how mean the owner was, etc. Then the IG person followed up with Sephora removed their products. But I had already ordered. I don’t think I’ll be buying any more!

        • kpsays says

If I would have known, I would have never purchased. So funny, I see people post Lime Crime items on my IG feed, and someone always comments on their shady business practices, and to “beware who you support”. Boo for me!

The twitching eye sounds really annoying, the only thing I can suggest is when going to bed wear an all black out eye mask to give your eyes a proper rest. The packaging of these lipsticks is beautiful I love the vibrant red the consistency looks lovely too Lucy x

Mama Karen!! This is so timely cos I’ve been obsessing about these Limecrime lippies SO BAD! The colours look ravishing on you my gorgeous Southern belle! So rich and pigmented- you are serving autumnal chic and I ain’t even mad ♥ Don’t think I’ll be good with the drying matte formula though #CrustyLips

I know this is a bit late but eye twitching is usually caused by stress. Or so I’ve been told.

Anyways, I’ve always wanted to try these but I might wait to see if they release a more “wearable” color in the mauve family. My lips don’t like matte lipsticks though so I’m not too sure. That’s annoying that it’s hard to apply. When I watch YouTube girls use it they make it looks super easy!
